What's That ... Green Web Hosting... Really !!!
Call it sheer Coincidence or call it pressure from others (mostly old friends) , the dumb, stupid creature (that's me of course) was googling through the net vigorously for the best Web Hosting service provider in the world !!!!
As it always happens to me finding a best in the category through googling was turning out to be a exercise in futility . There are those oodles of review , which we start reading for the comic value at some point, than actually get some value out of it . Then that .. you know $ thing . We had our own requirements also - you see . Basically i was heading no where . So the last resort , Typed “top website hosts” for a ranking … (After India Became THE No 1 test cricket team i have rediscovered my proclivity for the ranking and stuff).
Now i had bunch of link to sort through . There was that “http://webhostinggeeks.com/” which sounded good to me .. at that time at-least … Right click -> open link in a new tab. On top “Top 10 Web Hosting — Best Website Hosts 2011” ranking . Yes that “FAT COW” is there . Host-monster has not gone anywhere either. Scroll down “Popular Unlimited Web Hosting Services” section. Then “Green Web Hosting - Save the Earth!” section. Then “Web hosting Services” section . Oh wait . What is that - “Green Web Hosting - Save the Earth!” section. Two names “ www.supergreenhosting.com” and “www.greengeeks.com” . 1st one claims 100% green and second one 300% green. Curiosity rose … opened the links . Yeah the 1st one was quite green with shades of Blue . Nice little site . For sure second one was greener . Much greener . I would say even more than 3 times greener than the 1st one . Well and good . Thats what is the Green Web Hosting then. One thing I couldn’t fathom - “save the earth”. Now I am back on the pages to understand … HOW. For some wired reason, still unknown to me, that was not very conveniently placed. But finally i found this “ why greengeeks?” link “http://www.greengeeks.com/why-us/wu-green.php” And there was that scary fact “Studies have shown that by the year 2020 that the web hosting industry will be as big of a polluter as the airline industry”. I murmured- don't believe , ain’t possible.But then they have put a link next to it . That “the new york times” logo top left was impressive and the article got the due chance . What you know .!! In the 1st line itself they have put “McKinsey & Co.” reported . I said i accept whatever written below .
So now I believe

-In the old mainframe days, data centers were far more efficient but inflexible. In modern data centers, which use standardized technology from the personal computer industry, things are flexible but uncontrolled.
Now I was back to reading how this Green Web hosting sites can “Save the Earth”.
